Lucky you, you have found an apartment in Amsterdam but now you have to get all your stuff there. You might only have a suitcase or you might have your own furniture with you. As Amsterdam is super busy we like to give you some moving tips that may come in handy.
1. Arrive early
If you start early, you can not only make the most of your day but there are some logistic reasons as well. This is a very important tip for moving in Amsterdam because you might have a van with all your stuff and want to park close to your new home. Between 7 and 8 am people leave their houses for to go to work and you’ll probably have more parking space available.
2. Prepare every detail
This may sound obvious but pack all your stuff in practical boxes and do not have ‘loose items’ like shoes, kitchen appliances or anything else lying around. This will make you walk up and down the stairs more often than necessary which leads to a delay on your moving day. Make sure there are no unpleasant surprises when you arrive, like an uncleaned apartment or any other errors that should have been fixed by your realtor. If it helps, make a checklist in advance.
3. Rent a moving lift
Is your new apartment not on the ground floor and do you have a lot of stuff? Don’t hesitate to rent a moving lift. Especially if you’re on the second floor or higher and there is no elevator. Amsterdam staircases can be very steep and narrow. With a moving lift everything will be lifted up to your apartment window and all your stuff will be upstairs within half an hour.
